Mumbai: It was in March that Achherr Bhaardwaj decided to visit his hometown Chandigarh.
What followed next was the lockdown. Taking a break from his routine life in Mumbai, he decided to take it slow that led to weight gain. He was shortly offered the role of Lakhan Kothari in Dangal’s recently launched serial ‘Aye Mere Humsafar’. The role required him to look sharp and fit and someone who wants to also make it big in life like his highly respected entrepreneurial mother Pratibha Devi played by Neelu Vaghela. Just like Vidhi Sharma played by Tina Philip, Lakhan too was aspiring to have a career in the IAS but destiny does not let him have his way this time.
It was during this lockdown and before he could return to Mumbai that he took on the challenge of losing 10 kgs. within a little over a month by following a diet that was local and one that did not compromise on his health to suit the role of Lakhan Kothari.
Speaking on preparing for his role, Achherr Bhaardwaj said, “I was stuck in Chandigarh during the lockdown and it was during this time that the role of Lakhan Kothari was offered to me. I realized that I would have to work to fit in character and with everything under complete lockdown and with no access to gyms I relied on self-training to get back into shape. Since I had no access to training equipment, I began cycling and took to farming. Farming is quite a great work out by itself. It really helped me lose weight and fit into the character of Lakhan Kothari who tries to get his way around things. Lakhan’s character is also quite different from the characters I’ve played in the past. He is ambitious, eager to earn to ensure he has a good social status. While it is been over a month of me playing Lakhan I am still learning more about his character with each passing day.”
