Meta’s photo and video-sharing app Instagram will be launching a text-based app that will compete with microblogging platforms Twitter, Mastodon and Bluesky.
Reports say that the company is currently testing the project with celebs and influencers and has been secretly available to content creators for months. It will reportedly be available for general public by June 2023.
The app will be separate from Instagram but will allow people to connect with other apps. While decentralised, it will help users interact with others on rival platforms like Mastodon.
Touted to be an “Instagram for your thoughts,” the app will look a lot like Twitter and will work with Instagram parameters.
